Owner: Duke Energy
Location: Cincinnati, OH
Project Description:
ThermalTech Engineering provided engineering and construction phase services to Duke Energy for the replacement of the main air handing unit serving 75% of their office tower at the historic 4th and Main building. The replacement unit is a variable capacity 90,000 CFM unit manufactured by Governair, using fan wall technology, built-in component redundancy and a conditioned walk in service corridor. It is located on the roof of the annex building which is adjacent to the existing mechanical penthouse that houses the unit being replaced. To prepare the space, there were previous crane lifts to remove abandoned cooling towers, and the existing cooling tower steel was modified to accept the new unit. The replacement unit was installed in 4 sections.
The completion of installation, manufacturer’s start-up, controls commissioning, interim operation, and final tie-in occurred over a period of several months to allow the buildings occupancy, including critical operations, to not be affected.
